A transmission service is part of your vehicle’s routine maintenance plan.
Over time, your transmission fluid becomes contaminated with tiny particles of clutch material and metal shavings. These can clog tiny passages and wedge between parts causing wear and tear to your transmission. Changing the fluid eliminates these particles and extends the life of your transmission by providing better lubrication, greater holding ability to the friction components, and heat reduction.
The color and odor of your transmission fluid says a lot about the condition of the fluid and the transmission itself. Fresh clean fluid will be a reddish pink color with no off-putting odor. Dark fluid indicates that it is time for a fluid flush, while milky, burnt, or foul smelling fluid could indicate that your transmission needs repair or replacement.
